Taking online shopping to a new level – Instagram

Well, this is a good news for people who love Instagram and for those whole love shopping. Instagram is a place where everything happens with images. And guess what, now it has started to support online shopping. It claims to read product tags and allow its users to buy the products up for sale with few clicks.

More than 84% of smartphone users in the US browse, research or compare products via a web browser or mobile app.

Realizing the potential of smartphones in providing good ecommerce experience, Instagram has taken this leap.

To begin with, some 20 retail brands are engaged with Instagram in this, which includes Kate Spade, JackThreads and Warby Parker as well. Shopping experience on Instagram will be way different from other shopping sites. Here you can tap the product picture you like, When tapped, a tag will appear on various products in the post—showcasing up to five products and their prices. Once a tag is selected a new detailed view of the product will open.

The major difference is, customer get product review and information at very early stage of the shopping. This help in making a good decision in less time. Whereas on other sites, customer get product information quite late and which results in quitting shopping at checkout. And, if the visitor likes the product, he can click on ‘shop now’. By performing this action, he will be taken to actual site of the product.

If we believe on the Instagram representatives, they are currently not taking any share from the sales but soon they will plan something to monetize this. And many other features are in pipeline in the update roll out.
